The latest Republican attack on Obama is to blame him for the current price of gas. Note that many activities such as what is going on in Iran leads to gas prices going up. Additionally, gas speculation is a recent phenomena, which we do not hear the Republicans fighting against. They like to point out that gas was $1.80 when Obama took over but seem to forget that gas was at $4.00 in May 1984 when Bush was in charge. Read Robert's Reich's piece today (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-reich/price-of-oil_b_1290409.html?ref=homepage) where he points out that "Speculators have pushed crude oil to $105.28 per barrel, up 35 percent since September. Brent crude, Europe's benchmark, is now $120.37 a barrel -- also worrisome because many East Coast refineries use imported oil." This vile onslaught by Republicans is damaging our democracy. This is not exercising freedom of speech but rather abuse of freedom of speech through distortion of the truth and outright lies meant to shore up the Republican base.
There is no positive message coming out of the Republican ranks - nothing but finger pointing, blame, name calling and vile lies about our President. Even conservative commentators like David Frum are concerned over the negativity. Frum wrote today an article titled, "Where is the GOP's Positive Program? You can read it here: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/02/21/where-is-the-gop-s-positive-program.html
BTY, you can't make this up. Mitt just told a crowd today that cutting spending will slow the economy down!!! This is not what Republicans want to hear but it is just what the Democrats have been saying. Read about this at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/21/romney-spending-cuts_n_1292261.html. The reality and history points out that you need to increase spending in the short term in order to create conditions for growth. This is what Obama has done with the stimulus and associated actions to get the economy back in order. It will take time - he told us that.
And as for Santorum, well you need to read for yourself - even conservatives are now worried about his extreme right-wing views (see: http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/02/aooogah-conservatives-start-to-sound-the-alarm-over-rick-santorums-extremism.php?ref=fpnewsfeed).
