It appears that our Senator can't help themselves - even Democrats from getting ahead of the President. Knowing he intends to make a major speech om immigration reform on Tuesday, these Senators decide to annouce their "Bipartisan Framework for Comprehensive Immigration Reform" (see link at end of post) today!! TPL is concerned as the Huffington Post whether these Senator will in fact blow it!!! Senators that worked on a framework for
immigration reform are: Senators Schumer, McCain, Durbin, Graham, Menendez, Rubio, Bennet, and Flake. The bottom line issue TPL has is that our democrats agreed to establishing border security first, a Right-wing position for years before any, any step is taken to provide legal
status to undocumented immigrants. This is an excerpt, "We will demonstrate our commitment to securing our borders and combating visa overstays by requiring our proposed enforcement measures be complete before any immigrant on probationary status can earn a green card." Note that what Latinos get after border security is lawful probationary status. During this period they will not benefit from Obamacare and other federal benefits! See this excerpt, "Current restrictions preventing non-immigrants from accessing federal public benefits will also apply to lawful probationary immigrants." So the Right gets its border security, all undocumented get some legal status and then to the back of the line were they wait until all legal submissions for
green cards are acted on first before they are considered for a green card. This will take years and years before an undocumented can become a citizen. So they will not have the right to vote.
TPL cannot see how these democratic Senators agreed to this. The Democrats got the Latino vote - the Latino mandate so the Democrats should have worked with President Obama on a framework, and then passed it to the Right-wing to adjust to! Yes, it looks like the Democrats may have blown it. Also see this LA Times article. TPL. Visit TPL at www.theprogressivelatino.com and like us on face book.
