This article lists state by state the impact the sequester will have. There is a ripple effect that most don't see but will happen staring with the economy being set back. Some will loose job, prices at the market will go up - get the picture. So call your congressman and tell him/her to resolve this. TPL (www.theprogressivelatino.com)
The Republicans are having a hard time getting their act together these days. After a nasty election campaign, they are trying to contnue their strategy of obstructionism. David Brooks a Right wing commentator really blew it yesterday when he stated that President Obama had no plan. Latinos this is why you have to do your own homework. President Obama has a plan and it is located at: http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/docs/deficit_reduction_table_bucketed_r8.pdf. It is important to understand what is going on here. yes, we have a deficit but we also need to keep the recovery going. This calls for a balanced approach to address our nation’s problems. Can’t just cut our way back to economic prosperity. Take a look at this Think Progress Report and associated graphics. They tell the story of priorities - the people or corporate elite. The Think Progress Report calls out that “For example, we could avoid painful cuts to investments in jobs and education just by ending a giveaway to corporate jet owners.” For information about the sequester and its impact (it will impact you not just the Defense Department), go to: http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2013/02/19/setting-record-straight-about-sequester. Latinos call your congressman, send emails to your congressman telling them you support the President. Remember, Junto Podemos!! Latinos be careful what you wish for. Just because a Latino is running for congress is not a reason to vote for him or her. Take Ted Cruz. He has already in just two short months managed to embarass his own party by running his mouth and being just a nasty person with nothing to offer that is constructive. He is being compared to Joseph McCarty!! Read the story and get informed. We also have the Right wingnut, Tea party pandering to Latinos. They figure to get those that will be happy as one-issue republicans. You know the type, anti-bortion, anti-gay, pro-gun. The kind that votes republican because of one issue only allow himself to get screwed by the Right wing leadership that only truely cares about its corporate sponsors. The extreme right has taken over the republican party so no amount of brown skin will matter - they don’t like us. Look at McCain. Because he ran his last Senate campaign as a far right wingnut, he now has to answer to them and they are not happt with him. See video at link here. What hatred they have for Latinos!!!! And so we finish tonight with a pic that many right wingers wish they had kept under wraps but the more hateful ones let out. This pic was crafted as a warning to whites of what they are up against with the growing Latino population. What they don’t get is that the trend is irreversible and it behoved them to play nice cause Latinos have long memories just like the next guy. Pass this on. Don’t be played and vote for a Democratic Congress in 2014. TPL (www.theprogressivelatino.com) Pic credits to visual.ly
Congress with overwhelming Republican supported voted for and passed the sequester bill. This game that Rubio-the-thirsty-one plays reveals his character. He may not be a loud mouth like Cruz but he is cut from the same vein, a right wing, protect-corporate-greed at the expense of the middle class agenda. The Right wingnuts are doing all they can to obstruct President Obama. It’s not just sequestration. We see it in their opposition to Obama on immigration, climate change, voting rights, health care, anything and everything Obama is for - they are against. This is taking the country down. What is amazing is that there are folks out there that will support this crazy thinking. What is more crazy is that any Latino would support a party that does not care for him or her. According to the Huffingtom Post, “Alabama state Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin (R) is pushing legislation that would impose restrictions on abortion clinics -- a move that she argues is necessary because the procedure is a major surgery that removes the largest "organ" in a woman's body.” What she means by this is a baby. Yes you read correctly - yet another Right wing nut like Todd Akin (the “legitimate rape” talk) saying crazy things. What is not so crazy is that there are many out there that will go along and others that will not get involved. Latinos do you want this? Do you want to be part of this kind of thinking? Take note that Rubio on hearing of the President’s immigration proposal said it was dead on arrival. Do we get to hear him say this about the baby being the largest organ in the body? Don’t hold your breath! TPL (www.theprogressivelatino.com) Like us on Facebook.
America’s immigration system is broken. Too many employers game the system by hiring undocumented workers and there are 11 million people living in the shadows. Neither is good for the economy or the country.
It is time to act to fix the broken immigration system in a way that requires responsibility from everyone —both from the workers here illegally and those who hire them—and guarantees that everyone is playing by the same rules.
Rubio and others like to say the President does not have a plan and when he does they don't like it. Rubio's plan is same as any other Right winger's - Border security first. Read President Obama's plan straight from whitehouse.gov and yes it does say "citizenship." TPL (www.theprogressivelatino.com)
Ted Cruz is one of the newest Right-wing nut Senators and has quickly moved to make a name for himself by being a nasty
attack dog. Anything to warm up to the Tea party. He is for everything the Right represents, which mean he may be Latino but he is no friend to latinos only to corporate elitist. And then there is Boehner who during the President’s State of the Union just sat there with a look of disdain. He wouldn’t even “rise even for a shout-out to “wounded warriors,” or 102-year-old Deseline Victor, who waited seven hours to vote in Miami on Election Day” according to Salon reporting. This is what you will contiinue to get if they are not voted out in 2014! As Tea party sweetheart, Rubio definately looks tame next to these two but TPL will stress over and over that he is no different from the rest of the Right-wing nuts. He voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act and on immigration, played to the Right with “broder security first,” even though Obama has done more for border security than Bush. It should not matter but it does. Poor preparation, amateurish, nervous, well you only get one chance and he blew it. Oh and did we mention he did not call for citizenship and he is now against the minimum wage before he was for it. Maybe the Right-wing nut should try out Cruz. His loud mouth is something the right is more comfortable with. What do you think Latino? Does Rubio represent Latinos? TPL visit TPL at www.theprogressivelatino.com and Like Us on Face Book.
Imagin by now many of you have seen Rubio's ackward speech after President Obama's State of the Union speech. Hard enough to go after The Orator-In-Chief but Rubio gets no sympathy from TPL. His speech was flat and aimed at the ring-wing nuts - the core. Key take away is that he DID NOT MENTION CITIZENSHIP as part of his plan for immigration and spoke the standard party line of border security first, which is code word for doing nothing. We will likely get immigration reform but not because of Rubio. He was not even close. Obama showed leadership and his message to Congress is "just get it done."By the way he vote against the violence against women act and does not believe in climate change. Maybe Univision was right to call him a loser. What do you think Latinos? TPL visit TPL at www.theprogressivelatino.com Pic credits to ABC News
1. Refused to raise the debt ceiling. Rubio voted against the GOP’s compromise measure to temporarily suspend the debt limit through May 19 in order avoid defaulting on the national debt. In a statement posted on his website, Rubio insisted that he would hold the debt ceiling increase hostage “unless it is tied with measures to actually solve our debt problem through spending reforms.”
2. Co-sponsored and voted for a Balanced Budget Amendment. “Now more than ever, we need a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution,” Rubio proclaimed in 2011. A Balanced Budget Amendment would force the government to slash spending during an economic downturn, driving up unemployment and making the downturn worse, in a vicious cycle. If the amendment were in place during the last financial crisis, unemployment would have doubled.
3. Signed the Norquist pledge. Rubio pledged to never raise taxes under any circumstances and even voted against the last-minute deal to avert the fiscal cliff, since the deal included $600 billion in revenue. “Thousands of small businesses, not just the wealthy, will now be forced to decide how they’ll pay this new tax,” Rubio noted in a statement.
TPL has and will continue to inform on Rubio. He is not the Right's savior and for sure not for America. This guy may be smooth and a pretty face but he is still very much Right-wing. His defense and push for immigration is just to get enough votes away from the Democrats to make it easier for his side to win in 2016. Read this great article by Think Progress. BTW, there are more than just 8 reasons. TPL will stay on this. The Right thinks they got their Latino savior that will somehow get all the Latinos out their to turn Right-wing. No - not likely! In the latest Right-wing display
of hypocrisy and racism, Republican Congressman Lou Barletta
said. “The majority that are here illegally are low-skilled
or may not even have a high school diploma. The Republican
Party is not going to compete over who can give more social programs out. They
will become Democrats because of the social programs they’ll depend on.” Click here
for the entire article. Ya, it's ok
to deny the poor, uneducated the right to be here so long as your Italian ancestors
were able to eh Lou! The Right-wing
wants your vote Latino but be weary. The
Right-wing is spilt - arguing amongst itself over immigration. Some still don't want it and see
it as amnesty. That’s not all. They say they now want to address immigration
but the devil is in the details and they don’t see a pathway to citizenship as
part of the deal. Where is Rubio? Typical Right-wing blowback is talk like
this. Rep.
Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) asked, “Are there options that we should consider between the
extremes of mass deportation and the pathway to citizenship for those not
lawfully present in the United States?" This is crazy talk. They want to play the Latinos just to get more of their vote as if Latinos are stupid enough to accept a token handout. TPL visit www.theprogressivelatino.com and LIKE us on Facebook
Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh lashed out at Mexican immigrants Wednesday in a radio rant that portrayed them as lazy and government-dependent -- the latest in a series of anti-Mexican statements spouted off by far-right conservatives angered by the possibility of a deal to pass a bipartisan immigration reform.
Limbaugh, who pundits for a living, described Mexican immigrants as lazy and government-dependent, though they are well known for working labor-intensive jobs for lower wages, fewer protections and less government benefits than the native born.
When making the comparison between Mexican immigrants and the Cuban exile generation that immigrated in the 1960s, the conservative radio host insisted that he was “not just asserting it,” and that “the scholarly research from academia is out there.”
Latinos, the Right-wing is working to get immigration reform done with democrats but don't let that fool you - they don't like you any more than before the election. Republican leadership just feels that to win in 2016 they need some of you to go Republican. Well you get what you ask for if you do that. Support Obama - call your representative to have Obama keep the pressure on. You need to see this video and pass it on. TPL
It appears that our Senator can't help themselves - even Democrats from getting ahead of the President. Knowing he intends to make a major speech om immigration reform on Tuesday, these Senators decide to annouce their "Bipartisan Framework for Comprehensive Immigration Reform" (see link at end of post) today!! TPL is concerned as the Huffington Post whether these Senator will in fact blow it!!! Senators that worked on a framework for immigration reform are: Senators Schumer, McCain, Durbin, Graham, Menendez, Rubio, Bennet, and Flake. The bottom line issue TPL has is that our democrats agreed to establishing border security first, a Right-wing position for years before any, any step is taken to provide legal status to undocumented immigrants. This is an excerpt, "We will demonstrate our commitment to securing our borders and combating visa overstays by requiring our proposed enforcement measures be complete before any immigrant on probationary status can earn a green card." Note that what Latinos get after border security is lawful probationary status. During this period they will not benefit from Obamacare and other federal benefits! See this excerpt, "Current restrictions preventing non-immigrants from accessing federal public benefits will also apply to lawful probationary immigrants." So the Right gets its border security, all undocumented get some legal status and then to the back of the line were they wait until all legal submissions for green cards are acted on first before they are considered for a green card. This will take years and years before an undocumented can become a citizen. So they will not have the right to vote. TPL cannot see how these democratic Senators agreed to this. The Democrats got the Latino vote - the Latino mandate so the Democrats should have worked with President Obama on a framework, and then passed it to the Right-wing to adjust to! Yes, it looks like the Democrats may have blown it. Also see this LA Times article. TPL. Visit TPL at www.theprogressivelatino.com and like us on face book.

If you tracked Rubio's tough talk before Secretary Clinton testified and his actual questioning of her you might get a sense of how weak he is - sort of an all show and no substance pretty boy. It almost looked like he was nervous when questioning Secretary Clinton. Not much substance from a wanabe president. Now Rubio is trying to ahead of Obama by talking up his immigration ideas. He has not yet introduced legislation though he has had plenty of time. Just watch Latinos how he addresses the 12 million undocumented. Likely NO path to citizenship only a ploy to get some Hispanics into the right-wing nut camp. They figure a little immigration, a little anti abortion, and a little anti-gay should move enough folks to the right to make it easier to win in 2016. Now get this Rubio is set to blame the unions if his immigration proposals fail. Well it will not be because of labor unions that his immigration policy will fail - it will be because in his heart he is just another Republican that does not care. They just want your vote. Don't let the packaging fool you. Rubio's views on immigration are far right of where most Latinos are. If they can get you to accept just legal status they figure your will be plenty happy but remember with legal status you can't vote. So it's a clever ploy to gain the Hispanic vote of those whom are citizens that desire immigration reform while providing legal status to undocumented to keep them from voting. You know they assume most Latinos in 2016 will still favor Democrats so why add more to the rolls with new citizens. Stay informed and inform others. You can gather that Republicans will continue their nonsensical, obstructionist views on just about everything the Obama administration pursues. Even when some of their own kind like Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal tell fellow republicans they need to stop being stupid. TPL. The Huffington Post has an article today titled, " No More Mr. Nice Guy." Recommend you all read it. President Obama sought change based on consensus, on compromise - moving forward on what we agree on. The Obstructionist Republicans spent the last 4 years with the sole goal of making him a one-term president. Much got done but much did not due to the constant battles. It appears that President Obama will be taking a much more aggressive approach. Latinos like strong forceful leadership. We need it to get the economy fully on track, and to deal with comprehensive immigration, health care and many other policy issues. So as we honor our president today on his inaugural, we look forward to the next 4 years that they continue to improve our well being. Let us never forget that it was the Right wing that took our economy down. The very same folks that wear "fiscal responsibility" as a badge of honor. The same gang that is anti-women, ant-gay, well ant-anything that brings social justice. They will continue to be an obstacle to progressivism so it is for us as Latinos to stay informed, stay engaged, and stay united. TPL. Like us on Facebook. Spread the word. Pic credit to TPM.
Watch Rubio as he practices blind ambition because that is all he can do. There is no true commitment to Latino interests. His latest talk on immigration still lacks substance, and is just a political ploy to try to get ahead of the President knowing he is determined to pass immigration reform. His latest BFF, Ryan plays to Rubio hedging his own bet that maybe he has a shot in 2016 and Rubio could bring him Latino votes. Just take note Latinos, Rubio has yet to introduce any immigration legislation. It's just been talk for now. He did not do it during the elections and he has not done it yet. Lately he thinks it is just dandy to take advantage of the recent mass killing to call our President a coward!! Well, It takes a coward to attack the President on the 2d Amendment knowing full well it is not true. Rubio is just trying to make a name for himself on the misfortune of those killed by assault rifles. Instead of attacking the President for political gain, why not join in a constructive conversation on gun safety. Probably because that might take some political courage for Republican. Oh one more thing, keep in your memory box for 2016 that Rubio joined the likes of Rand Paul, Michele Bachmann, Connie Mack, the Looney Tune Allen West in voting against the fiscal cliff bill! Boy that sure showed some courage. So, yes he joined up with the TEA Party Nuts to cast an irresponsible vote. We will not let the voters forget that.

TPL took a break after the elections. It was a given that the Right-wing would push all the way to the fiscal cliff probably betting that President Obama would cave in. He did not thankfully, and a last minute deal was worked. We should assume a continued dysfunctional Congress with the House Republicans continuing to say no to any Obama initiative. That said, we can also expect that President Obama and the Democrats will stand more firm on key issues. The economy should continue to get better slowly but surely. As for Latinos, the Democrats, we believe will not take their support for granted. Immigration will very likely be a 2013 agenda. President Obama is already indicating he is pushing for legislation in this month, quicker than TPL thought given the economic challenges with the upcoming debt ceiling and sequestration events to deal with. The outlook is one of guarded optimism for Latinos. We can however count on the Extreme Right-wing to continue to step on it making it easier to enable immigration and get the Dream Act into law. Even Colin Powell and admired national figure who is a Republican has his problems with the party. See his interview on Meet The Press. He characterizes his party as one of intolerance. Corporate greed exposed. Oh my gosh! Papa John's pizza may go up 11 - 14 cent!!! Why? Because according to John Schnatter, CEO of Papa John's, Obamacare will force him to do what he should have done, and that is to provide some measure of health insurance to his company. Get this Latinos, because Obamacare requires employee health coverage for those employees working 30 hours or more - Papa John intends to cut back on his employee hours to get out of the health care requirement!!!! He is not alone. This is a clear example of corporate greed. TPL believes that paying 14 more cents per pizza, heck even 50 cents more is worth it to know fellow Americans can have some health insurance!!! John Schnatter is the founder, chairman and CO-CEO of Papa John's International Inc. He has a net worth of around $300 million. Schnatter has over 3400 Papa John's restaurantsaround the world.
According to Papa John's website, "As of December 2011, there were approximately 16,500 employees." These are low paid individuals to begin with and there is no expectation of their having the best medical coverage but certainly some minimal coverage. After all it is on the backs of 16500 low paid employees that Papa John can have a home like you see in the picprovided and be worth 300 million!
TPL will be routinely covering corporate greed. TPL is not against being wealthy but that the wealthy should have some sense of social and moral consciousness. The Right will be seeking to convert Latinos to Republicans as a result of this election. As a free society it is your choice as to what party you belong to but you should be informed. The Right believes in entrepreneurship that as individuals take risk and get wealthy through business that society overall will benefit - the so call trickle down and that big government should stay out of the way. Well staying out of the way is what almost got us into another major economic depression. Please read the article at Salon.com titled, "Five Ways Corporate Greed is Bankrupting America."

Mitt Romney's campaign said that President Barack Obama won the state of Florida in the race for the White House.
The Miami Herald reports that Romney adviser Brett Doster said in a statement, "The numbers in Florida show this was winnable," and added, "We thought based on our polling and range of organization that we had done what we needed to win. Obviously, we didn’t, and for that I and every other operative in Florida has a sick feeling that we left something on the table. I can assure you this won’t happen again."

And finally, this quote from Michael Smerconish, at Philly.commakes a heavy point to ponder, "This election has always been a referendum on Barack Obama. For some, not on matters of substance. don't vote. The most important thing to remember when you consider who to vote for is this - Our economy on Sept 18, 2008 was at a point of collapse. As Obama took office we were loosing jobs at record pace. Yet in spite of an obstructionist Right-wing Congress, Obama managed 32 months of job grow, save the auto industry, got health care and financial reform and yes Bin Laden and many more. Romney's record is as governor. Si why does he not boast about it? His health care program was the model for Obamacare, which Romney wants to repeal. He did not work in any bipartisan way - not with issuing over 800 vetoes of which just over 700 were overturned by the state congress. A friend of mine put together an awesome handwritten sign outlining why she’s voting for President Obama this year, I think it says almost everything you need to know:
Many Americans take it for granted that President Obama has been one of the most effective Presidents since FDR. It’s important to remember just how bad things were when he took office and how much he’s accomplished since he’s been in office.
This is a very enlightening Forbes article by Chris Weigl. He posts a pic of handwritten sign outlining why a friend of his is voting for President Obama. We tend to forget just how serious our situation was in 2008 when the economy was on the brink of collapse. Remember this, " September 18th, 2008 WE MAY NOT HAVE AN ECONOMY MONDAY Paulson and Bernanke go to Congress to present a rescue plan to congressional leadership. "If we don't do this, we may not have an economy on Monday," warns Bernanke." See this link (http://www.galtstock.com/Timeline-of-the-Economic-Collapse.html) for full timeline. Bottomline, folks, there was a moment when our leadership under Bush felt that if significant action did not take place, our nation's economy would not exist. Weigl lists 218 reasonsfor voting for President Obama. Take the time to review them and share with everyone you know. This election is too important not to vote!! Tell The Progressive Latino (www.theprogressivelatino.com) you plan to vote!
Back during Hurricane Katrina - remember, "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job?"
Ya, that same Brownie has the gall to criticize President Obama simply for, in his failed opinion, acting too quick!! Can you believe that? This is Brown, the former failed head of FEMA who "as the failed head of an Arabian horse sporting group who was plucked from obscurity to become President Bush's point man for the worst natural disaster in U.S. history.
" Maybe President Obama should have waited to see "Help" signs on top of rooftops like Brownie!!! Look Latino, a president does not have the luxury of armchair quarterbacks. He has the lives of citizens at stake, and if for acting too quick, nothing happens then good. The reality is much did happen these past few days and many states, including Republican Governor Cristie's can be thankful for all that government money! Remember Romney stayed quiet on Brownie's hypocritical comment, and BTY, Romney would cut FEMA if he were President! Note that " The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities wrote in August that Ryan's budget would likely dump the cost of dealing with disasters on state and local governments. " In the same Huffington Post article it was highlighted that "Mitt Romney at a GOP candidates' debate last year, in which he said it was "immoral" for the federal government to play a significant role in disaster relief at a time of high budget deficits.
" If the states should handle it then why do even Republican led states ask for government funds when disaster strikes? It is a fact that "Republican governorsof Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey praised federal relief efforts that helped their states prepare for the massive storm. Finally, as you might guess, when asked about cutting FEMA, Romney just ignored the question - 5 times because if he answered it he would either have to lie again as he did about the auto industry a few days ago or would have to tell us again that he does intend to cut FEMA. We can all say politicians are masters of falsehood but when you seek to pick a president you need to do your homework, and examine what a candidate for says yourself for the truth matters. An exageration is one thing but lies reveal bad character. Just note the latest lie regarding the auto industry and Romney. See this for more things he has said that are not true: http://www.politifact.com/personalities/mitt-romney/statements/byruling/false/
In the latest lie, Romney tries to tell folks that Chrysler is moving jobs to China. Both Obama and Chrysler refuted the charge. He has tried to distore the truth regarding how Obama saved the auto industry but all is documented for anyone interested in the truth. Bottom line Obama saved the auto industry as he saved America from a total finacial collapse while Roment said the auto industry should go bankrupt and that the house market should be left to bottom out!!! See the Obama video countering the lie. Credits to Dreamstime & the Daily KOS for pic. Per Daily KOS: "About 1,100 new Chrysler employees will begin working next week on a third crew at Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit as sales of Jeep Grand Cherokees continue to rise."
During a CNN debate at the height of the GOP primary, Mitt Romney was asked, in the context of the Joplin disaster and FEMA's cash crunch, whether the agency should be shuttered so that states can individually take over responsibility for disaster response.
"Absolutely," he said. "Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that's the right direction. And if you can go even further, and send it back to the private sector, that's even better. Instead of thinking, in the federal budget, what we should cut, we should ask the opposite question, what should we keep?"
"Including disaster relief, though?" debate moderator John King asked Romney.
As several states on the East Coast brace for Sandy, we might remember that millions stand to need, and recieve help from the Federal Government - in particular FEMA. So yes, when you vote keep in mind that this program, this one bigger than Big Bird, that Romney would cut is FEMA! So your vote matters!!! This is especially true if you live in Ohio, Virginia or Florida so please vote and make sure you call everyone you know and ensure they get out and vote. If you are in any state that Sandy may hit and expect help from FEMA just think if Mitt was president he would have shut it down and let the states handle it as if they have the money! Saturday Night Live took on the second presidential debate this week, with Jay Pharoah playing President Obama and Jason Sudeikis as Mitt Romney. Newcomer Aidy Bryant appeared as moderator Candy Crowley.
The candidates took on taxes, jobs and the Keystone XL pipeline. The skit also recreated the now-infamous Crowley fact-checking moment. Tom Hanks even made a cameo to ask a truly thought-provoking question about Libya.
Bonus: Fred Armisen appears as everyone's favorite college student, Jeremy!
Just a bit of fun in an otherwise tense buildup to election day. Libya does not define the Obama presidency as much as the Right wants to unless of course voters don't inform themselves of the truth. Obama ordered the attack that killed Bin Laden and has allowed many drone attacks - far more than Bush that has worn down Al Qaida and the Taliban. He has his eye on Iran and Syria, worked to ensure Gaddafi fell and for all the talk of the "Arab Spring" it is simply the result of many frustrated people having enough of their country's leadership not some imaginary unravel of Obama's foreign policy. Foreign policy is his strength and the Right is simply trying to wear it down by misinformation. Visit www.theprogressivelatino.com

Even the moderator had to real-time fact check Mitt when he lied repeatedly about the President's characterization of Libya. Obama talked facts, stood firm, held ground, and took ground. Mitt was desperate, chasing Obama around the floor, trying to trip him up to no avail. Obama spoke to women's issues, education, immigration, crime and more all while being presidential, with facts not just "I can do it" type talk we got from Mad-Mitt. Most important - President Obama finished by exposing Romney's character on the charater question by reminding all about what Romney said about the 47 % behind closed dorrs when he thought no one was listening. Pic credits to Huffingtonpost and Getty. See video where Candy Crowley corrects Mitt on his lie. Share. What do you think Latino?
Under President Obama and in spite of the Obstructionist Republican Congress, the economy has been steadily getting better. If you believe Romney's statement that he can create 12 million jobs then you deserve Romney. That is just not going to happen - not even close. If he could really do that don't you think he would explain how? So lets talk taxes. The Severely Conservative Mitt already pledged to Grover Norquist he would not raise taxes. He claims however that his tax plan will create jobs and reduce the deficit BUT can't explain how. In fact he states that he will work it out with Congress as to what gets done and how. He also claims that 6 studies back him up on his tax plan. Latinos and read carefully - 4 of the 6 are just bloggers! Just read this - click here. Even FOX News doubts Mitt's tax plan. If Chris Wallace of Fox News called the Romney studies “questionable” then you know we are in trouble!!! To better understand just how screwed up this is just note that his VP pick, Paul Ryan - Mr. Budget Dude - can't explain it either. So how will it work - seriously it does not matter as they expect you to drink the koolaid and when elected just do whatever. Now Latino this is not us making up stuff. Just look at Mitt's record as Govenor, which he has not spoken much of. He vetoed over 800 times against his Democratic Congress - yes no typo - over 800 vetos of which most were overturned on him. His only real accomplishment was the health care law that Obamacare was modeled on and he plans to repeal one his first day as President. What do you think? What a difference a week makes. Thanks to his strong and decisive performance at last Wednesday's presidential debate in Colorado, Mitt Romney has closed the gap with President Obama and has turned around a campaign that was suffering through a terrible few weeks.
But it was that very debate performance which sowed the seeds for a whole range of attacks on the GOP candidate, as critics called out the many inaccuracies he claimed on stage in Colorado, and forced his campaign to clarify his positions.
It was all to be expected perhaps, considering the campaign's stated intent to erase all the positions taken by Romney during the Republican primaries, as top adviser Eric Fehrnstrom predicted in March:
Etch A Sketch Mitt made a come back a week ago but not at a cost. Yes he told several lies as the fact checkers have discovered. But that will not slow him down as his base keeps drinking the lemonade. Bidden crushed Ryan and we are hopeful that Obama will make a come back next week. Latinos, progressive policies have always served the middle and working class American. Lots of talk out there about the Latino vote but it will not matter if the Latinos all don't vote. If you are a Democrat, you are probably quite pleased with Joe Biden's debate performance. As you peal-the-onion to the core of what matters, what TPL saw was a man perpared with the FACTs! Ryan could not defend many of his policies much less provide any details to describe them. Lots being written today on this. We found Salon.com's piece by Joan Walsh very through and worth your read. Also, worth your read is the one by Robert Reich "Why Biden Won."
This article by THE FIX, "How
the 1st debate changed the campaign (and what it didn’t change)" is a
must read Latinos. One key fact even
though Obama had a bad night is that what matters is the final sprint, and as
for polls - the polls that matters are for electoral votes in the swing
states. President Obama has not
changed. He has the same great campaign
as he had before the debate. He had Romney
on the run due to providing specifics on what he will do next term and clearly
expressing the good work done to date such as 30 months of consecutive job
growth and saving the automobile industry.
He still stand for all not just the 47 %. If you have been tracking, Romney was caught
in several lies (not spin) and has changed positions, which was meant to get
votes NOT to really change.
What did
change? Big
Bird!! That's right - While we might
laugh, think it comical or silly all correct, the critical issue Latino is that
Romney by singling out Big Bird exposes his conservative bias toward government
programs including PBS even if they prove a high return on investment as in
this case children's education. Big Bird
symbolizes Romney's intent to cut regulations, social security, Medicare,
education on and on and reward not the middle class but the upper class with
more breaks. For sure he doesn't care
about 47% of Americans and thinks very little of the remaining.
BTY, Latino - Big Bird or rather PBS equals just .012 of the the Federal budget!! See this TYT Network video.
Looks like the media wanted a fight, and did not get one so they declared Romney the winner of last night's debate. TPL sees it different. Obama won on substance, consistency, and being presidential. Romney was like a chihuahua biting at Obama's ankles all night. Note that Romney neither provided any specifics, and he changed his tone on his tax plan. Read HuffPost article. Here is an extract:
"I'm not looking for a $5 trillion tax cut," he said. "What I've said is I won't put in place a tax cut that adds to the deficit ... I will not add to the deficit."
This means, in all likelihood, that Romney won't be able to achieve a 20-percent, across-the-board reduction, as he has advertised since the middle of the Republican primary. He stressed that he wouldn't eliminate deductions and exemptions for middle-class earners. But even the studies that he cites as supportive insist that he'd have to do so in order to make his math work.
President Barack Obama, looking on, seemed surprised by the abrupt change in policy.
"Now ... he is saying that his big, bold idea is 'never mind.
We believe as the dust settles that the media will shift to what matters and begin to call Romney on his lack of any real plan and change of plans.
Even FOX, which is hard core, Right-wing, got frustrated with Ryan's inability to discuss any detail of his economic plan. Romeny has been asked and he won't explain and at times even says that Congress will decide, which means they really don't have a plan other than to increase military spending (after they agreed to cut it), privatize social security and Medicare and - well you know. Pass this on - is a clear reason (among many) for not voting for Romney. FOX News, Chris Wallace can't get any details out of Ryan. See the FOX video for yourself.
NEWS ONE excerpt: After Wallace plays a clip with the President claiming that no matter how many times the Republicans say they will give specifics, they provide none, the ridiculous dialogue begins:
Wallace: The Obama campaign says independent groups say that if you cut those tax breaks for everybody 20 percent, it costs $5 trillion over 10 years. True?
Ryan: Not in the least bit true. Look, this just goes to show that if you torture statistics enough, they’ll confess to what you want them to confess to…
Wallace: But how much would it cost?
Ryan: It’s revenue neutral.
Wallace: No, I’m just talking about the cut — we’ll get to the deductions, but the cut in tax rates, how much does it cost? What’s the percent?
Ryan: It’s revenue neutral.
Wallace: No, it’s not revenue neutral unless you take away deductions. And we are going to get to that in a second. But the first half, does that cost $5 trillion?
Ryan: No.
At this point, Ryan goes through dizzying verbal shenanigans, refusing to answer the key question.
Wallace: I have to tell you, you still haven’t given me the math.
Ryan: I don’t have the time [HE REALLY SAID THAT]…it would take me too long to go through all the math….
Latinos are part of Romney's 47 % - that group of victims that he can't worry about as they will never take responsibility for themselves. Do you believe that? Romney spoke about how he really felt when he was behind closed doors not thinking for a moment that no one would know. He has been trying to spin it, talking about how he cares for 100 %. Some try to defend him by comparing him to Obama's slip about folks clinking to guns, religion etc. but there is no escape from the truth. Here is the link from Mother Jones to the full transcript and there are more links within it to specific parts of the video as there is much more he had to say beyond disparaging the 47 %. Talking Points Memo has a piece on how the Democrats are exposing Romney and his 47 % comments. See this link. Every day it becomes more and more clear that Romney has no real vision for America; that he has no passion for conservative ideals. One can only conclude that having everything that he just wants to be president, and thinks that just putting down President Obama will get him the job. Latinos, President Obama from day 1 has been pressed with pulling our economy out of the gutter the Right-wing put it in. Had it not been for his policies there would have likely been great loss of jobs, and an unemployment rate of around 12 percent. Obama has put America's economy on the right track. Pass this on. After nearly a decade of steep declines, American manufacturing jobs have begun to rebound since the beginning of the Obama administration, as the slide that occurred under President George W. Bush and during the Great Recession has largely been reversed.
Manufacturing slumped in the first year of the Obama administration as the nation dealt with the effects of the recession, but since then, manufacturing has posted job gains in all but three months since February 2010, as Bloomberg Government reports:
The BGOV Barometer shows U.S. factory positions have grown since early 2010, arresting a slide that began toward the end of the 1990s. It’s the best showing since the era of Bill Clinton, the only president in the last 30 years to leave office with more factory jobs than when he began.
This is a critically important piece of good economic news that fell under the radar given all the news regarding Romney dismissing half our population, the racist remarks by Scott Brown against Elizabeth Warren, and Gingrich’s disrespectful lie about President Obama not being a real American. What is more significant is that Romney does not say anything regarding Gingrich’s characterization of President Obama!! The manufacturing sector has turned around for the first time in a decade according to this report. This is one more indicator that the policies that President Obama implemented are taking hold. Please read and pass it on – share it. Just one more reason to keep moving forward with progressive policies that are working instead of going back to the right-wing policies that almost destroyed the American economy. As we get closer to election day, it is time to take note of facts vs. spin. See this video. Romney is running in large part on the fact he can create jobs. Note that under Romney when governor, he was 47th out of 50 states in job creation!!!!
It's not just his giant income or the low tax rates he pays on it. And it's not just the videotape of him berating almost half of America, or his endless gaffes, or his regressive budget policies.
It's something that unites all of this, and connects it to the biggest underlying problem America faces -- the unprecedented concentration of wealth and power at the very top that's undermining our economy and destroying our democracy.
Romney just released his 2011 tax returns, showing he paid $1.9 million in taxes on more than $13 million of income last year -- for an effective tax rate of 14.1 percent. (He released his 2010 return in January, showing he paid an effective tax rate of 13.9 percent.)
Robert Reich provides a must read analysis of Romney. Romney keeps falling in the polls as Americans begin to see what he stands for. TPL Visit our blog at www.theprogressivelatino.com
This SNL tape from last night is worth watching. It pokes fun at the Romney, closed-door speech re the 47 percent, and FOX news attempt to spin it. What is not funny is that this guy claims anyone that is progressive and favors President Obama does not want to accept responsibility for his/herself!! How can the average republican, middle class voter think of continuing to support Romney? This the SNL tape:
Some humor here regarding a not so humorous situation regarding Romney's characterisation of 47% of our population - all for Obama that according to him don't want to take responsibility nor pay taxes. No!! He got it all wrong mixing up some much but the bottom line is that behind close doors, he revealed his disdain for a large part of America. See Jon Steward's piece on Romney. Video was taken off Huffington Post.
Latinos, you need to understand the character of the Right-wing candidates. Paul Ryan has been telling lies and has been called on it repeatedly but appears their strategy is to keep lying thinking their base will drink the cool-aid. By look at this - Former President Bush's Chief Political strategist - even he says that Ryan's speech at the convention was full of lies!!! So think about this as they try to tell you they will help Latinos, will they honor their word? Probably not. What do you think? Like us on Facebook.
Came across this new site called, "The Democratic Hub." This is an interesting, and comprehensive website. One of the more interesting sections are the "Latest Obama Administration Acomplishments Added" and "The Latest Conservative Lies Added." Here are a couple nasty conservative quotes. You can go see who said them: "We shouldn't remind people on welfare when the election is" and "From what I understand from doctors, if it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to shut that whole thing (conception) down."
